As a child growing up on Staten Island I was fortunate to have a neighborhood full of kids and a park a block away. My free time was filled with games that required some type of physical activity. I spent hours a day unknowingly developing movement skills and conditioning my body. These games would eventually lead to organized sports and my introduction to wrestling. In the seventh grade my mother signed me up for a wrestling class that meet twice a week at a local YMCA. Wrestling would become a big part of me and would be the sport I focused on. I would go on to compete in high school and college. Wrestling instilled a work habit and sense of pride that would carry me through many obstacles in my life.
While in college I majored in Physical Education. This taught me how and why the body is able to perform. I decided to apply my education and life experience and pursue a career in personal training. In 1994 I started working at Hanson Fitness, a personal training studio located in SOHO in downtown Manhattan. In the summer of 1996 Crunch Fitness was opening a new gym on 59th and 2nd avenue in Manhattan. I became the initial Personal Training Manager at this gym. I was starting from scratch and was responsible for the training and managing of the staff. The personal training at this facility was extremely successful.
In January of 1997 I left training to start a career with the New York City Fire Department. In the time since I moved back to Staten Island, got married, and have two beautiful healthy children. In the winter of 2008 I felt my training needed to evolve. I came upon an article in a fitness magazine that was describing a gym in Wisconsin. It was called Monkey Bar Gymnasium and was founded by John Hinds. His motto was; we run, we climb, we jump, we crawl. To interact with our surroundings as we are supposed to. It was exactly what I was looking for.
I began visiting his website on a regular basis and duplicating his routines. I started getting good results and my interest was continuing to grow. In the spring of 2009, I found out that John was going to run a three day certification in Brooklyn. I jumped at the opportunity. It was an excellent experience, I was able to learn the details of his training. I believe in this system of training. I decided to form Primal Fitness L.L.C. to combine my experiences with Monkey Bar Gymnasium and bring it to people in order for them to benefit from it. Primal Fitness L.L.C. will offer you a unique training experience that will be undeniable. I will not accept anything less than monthly improvement from 100% of my clientele. I look forward to working with you on a journey of personal empowerment through physical fitness.
